Knitted Tie

Knitted Tie

Super clever pattern that helped me create this classic knitted neck tie. The tie knits up in a round, diagonally. Good texture since it’s essentially double-sided.  I used a light weight sock yarn with self stripping. I also added a loop in the back – CO 6 stitches, stockinette for 2 inches and sewn secure in the back. Blocked to shape.

This made a happy knitter and recipient. 🙂

Yarn: Premier Yarns Deborah Norville Serenity Sock Weight Prints (Merino/Bamboo blend) purchased from Jo-Ann’s.

The Lace Cowl

Edited with corrections.  ** Dec 15, 2015

PDF file: LaceCowlPattern Dec 15 2015 Update

A fun and easy to knit cowl that’s perfect for the fall! I learned this beautiful lace pattern from my mom and decided to write up a pattern for it.  I used the app StitchSketch (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stitchsketch/id525117691?mt=8) to create the lace pattern chart. My choice of yarn was a 100% baby alpaca yarn from Cascade Yarns in Color 3033.  It’s super soft and knitted up very nicely.  This is a great project for beginners who are looking for a little challenge.  It looks complicated, but it becomes mindless knitting once you get the hang of the repetition. Enjoy!

This is a double-sided hat that you can sport with either the lace side or striped side out depending on your liking.  It’s such a smart, intricate, and well-written pattern by La Maison Rililie (http://www.lamaisonrililie.com). I love her clever play on word for the project name.  People who can think of such creative projects inspire me to be better.  It took me time to study the pattern, choose the yarn color, and finally knitting and finishing the project.  I can’t imagine how much more time and brain cells it took for her to actually write and test the pattern before publication.  This hat is both functional and fashionable.  Will probably knit again. 🙂

Yarn used: Holst Garn Supersoft 100% uld – Denim and Pussy willow

Needles: US 1.5  (2.50 mm), US 2.5  (3.00 mm) – Magic loop

Go Blue!!!

Christmas shopping was stressful, especially when trying to look for the most unique and perfect gift for a good friend.  I searched all over the internet but was unsuccessful in finding the Michigan hat I had imagined.  I looked down at my knitting needles and knew that I had to make it myself.  I found an awesome chart for the Michigan “M” on Ravelry, then one project turned into four projects.  I learned how to double-knit and made a double-knitted hotpad.  I found a pattern for a slouchy hat and incorporated the “M” in the pattern and knitted intarsia in a round. With the left over yarn, I made 2 more baby hats for her brother’s kids.  Knitting is fun, challenging, and allows me to turn inspirations into something tangible. Go Blue! ^__^

First post…Pretty in Pink

Image       Image

You can’t go wrong with the combination of pink and grey.  This scarf is so soft, warm, and not a bit prickly.  This is my first time working with mohair, which was a challenge at first because its thin texture.  After working the feather and fan section, it was pretty much mindless TV knitting working through the stripes.  I took my time over couple of months and finished it just in time for Christmas.  It’s now on its way to the lucky special recipient. 🙂

Pattern = Motley by Jane RichmondImage

  • Yarn:  Rowan Kidsilk
  • Color:  Grace & Steel. 2 skeins each.
  • Needles:  US 6  (4.0 mm)
  • Modifications:  Casted on 92 stitches.  After the feather and fan section, knitted 20 rows of garter stitches.  Larger stripes with 4 rows per color.
