yarn: flinders 100% cotton in dk weight

needles: 4 size 6 US (4mm) double pointed needles.

gauge: 6 stitches and 7 rows = 1″ in stockinette

pattern on ravelry: High Visibility Anklets

my ravelry: random fat echidna

start here

cast on 36 stitches in contrast colour and knit 7 rows (or one inch) in two/two rib.

increase 4 stitches (inc one at the start of each needle and then in the middle of the last needle) and change colour. you now have 40 sts.

knit one round in main colour and continue knitting in main colour

separate stitches by slipping purlwise so that needle1 (the beginning of the round and will be the heel) has twenty sts, needle2 has 10 sts, and needle3 has ten sts.

heel flap: knit back and forth on needle 1, using eye of partridge stitch for five repeats of the pattern.

eye of partridge stitch:

1: *slip 1, knit 1* repeat to end

2: slip 1, purl to end

3: slip 2, *knit 1, slip 1* to last two stitches, knit 2

4: slip 1, purl to end

finish having completed a ws row. now knit the round heel.

the round heel:

1: slip 1, k10, ssk, k1, turn
2: slip 1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn
3: slip 1, k8, ssk, k1, turn
4: slip 1, p9, p2tog, p1, turn.

slip one, and knit across.

gusset: pick up eleven stitches from the side where you slipped every row. knit across the stitches on needles 2 and 3. pick up the remaining eleven stitches from the other side of the flap.

knit to the centre back of the heel. this is the new beginning of the round. knit pattern below until you reach 40 stitches.

round 1

needle 1: k to last 3sts, k2tog, k1
needle 2: k
needle 3: k1, ssk, k to end

round 2
