Socks for 14″ Dolls – Free Knitting Pattern!

IMG_2279.JPG

These socks fit Wellie Wishers and Hearts for Hearts dolls. I give instructions for a basic, one-colour sock, but you can experiment a lot with this pattern to make some really fun socks! I’ll include the measurements of Wellie Wisher feet below so you can compare to any other doll type you may want to knit these socks for.

I’ve seen multiple sock patterns for 18″ dolls, but none for 14″ and similarly sized dolls. I wanted to knit some socks for my Wellies, so I decided I would have to make my own pattern. Hope you enjoy!

Wellie Wisher foot length: 4 + 1/2cm

Ankle circumference: roughly 8cm

Distance from toe tip to ankle: 2 + 1/2cm

If there are any other measurements you need, please let me know in the comments. šŸ™‚

Now, let’s start the pattern!

Needles: 2.25mm double pointed needles

Yarn: Loops and Threads Woolike (or any similarly-sized stretchy yarn)

Other: stitch marker to mark center/beginning of round, sewing needle for kitchener stitch.

Gauge (not stretched): 10 stitches and 15 rows in an inch

Cast on 26 stitches using whatever stretchy method you prefer. I use the long tail cast on. The socks will fit better if you cast on relatively loosely.

  1. Hannah, I am so glad to hear of a young woman such as yourself who loves dolls. I am a much older collector, who has loved dolls all her life. There are a great many collectors in my age group, but I wonder sometimes if my dolls will have anyone to appreciate them in the future. I think of dolls as time travelers, because some of my dolls are well over 100 years old, but they have not changed. The world has changed. I have three small granddaughters, and I make sure that they have lovely dolls in hopes that they will want to inherit my collection someday. I think that they will. They are all under five years old, and two of them have Sasha babies. The youngest will receive hers when she is one year old, because it is hard to enjoy playing with a doll before you can walk. I found your pattern looking for a sock to make for a cloth doll that I made to wear clothes from fabrics I dye with plants, Her name is Dyeanna. I think your pattern will fit her very well. Thank you.

    1. Thank you so much for commenting, Susan! Your doll collection sounds so wonderful, I’m sure your granddaughters will be happy to inherit it someday. I love Dyeanna’s name, and hope the pattern fits her. šŸ™‚

  2. I’m so excited to find your blog, Hannah! I have printed out your sock pattern. I’ve never knitted with double pointed needles before, but I guess, at 67 years old, it’s time to try something new. My granddaughters both have Journey Dolls (the Australian version of an American Doll) and the youngest one has the Camille Wellie Wisher. I’m busy knitting and sewing for Christmas! Thanks so much for your pattern and your story, which I am thoroughly enjoying! Oh – and yes, I have one American doll myself!
