Here is a new knitting pattern for a washcloth with a fun Agave Rows Lace Pattern. I am inspired by the desert this year so the next new patterns are inspired by the South West here in the USA.

I was just on the yarnspirations.com website and saw a perfect crochet version of this stitch pattern called the One Skein Wrap!

 

Materials Needed:

Suggested Yarn: Any Organic Cotton, Worsted Weight, A dusty blue green if you can find a small skein or ball.

Gauge: 4.25 sts and 5 rows = 1”

Tools: Single Point  US-7 (4.5 mm) or US-8  (5.0 mm) Knitting Needles 

2 – Stitch Markers

Finished washcloth is about 8-9 inches square

 

Instructions:

Long-Tail Cast On 37 stitches

Row 1 (RS): K13, PM. K11, PM. K13

Row 2-3: Knit 

note: slip marker when you get to it. 

Row 4: K2, P33, K2 

Row 5: K2. * [K2tog] twice, YO, [K1, YO] 3 times, [K2tog} twice*  Repeat this pattern 2 more times, K2  

Row 6:  K2, P33, K2

Row 7: Knit 

Repeat Rows 4-7 for pattern until washcloth is square in shape.

Knit 2 rows ending on the right side.

Bind off in Knit Stitch  from the wrong side

Weave in ends well and carefully. 

 

Abbreviations:

St (sts): Stitch (stitches)

RS – Right side

PM – Place Marker

K – Knit

P – Purl

K2tog – Knit 2 stitches together

YO – Yarn Over Needle 

Charted as seen from the Right Side.

Shown is 3 repeats of Agave Rows stitch  pattern. This washcloth takes approximately  10-12 repeats.

I was thinking that this would be a perfect with handmade soap as a gift. Add lip balm and hand moisturizer for a great gift for almost anyone! I was thinking to make those eyelets tiny by purling the yarn overs through the back loop on Row 6 to make it less lacy for the men. When I whip up a sample, I will post it up so all can see.

2-29-20 – It came out better than I thought! So right after you do Row 5 with the k2togs and the yarn overs, on Row 6 when you purl back, purl the yarn overs through the back loop.

Row 6: K2 [p2, Ptbl, P1, Ptbl, P1, Ptbl, P1, Ptbl, P2] Repeat 2 more times, K2
