Easy Textured Fingerless Gloves

Nice and warm!

Nice and warm!

I love this textured yarn!  However, it took me a while to figure out what to do with it.  I guess I have a tendency to want to try elaborate stitch patterns, but with a textured yarn fancy stitches just don’t show very well.  Added to which they were not so flattering to showing the yarn off well.

So, I have kept this project simple, which makes it nice and quick to work up a pair of fingerless gloves and matching scarf (look out for this pattern next week!)

I thought these carved coconut buttons matched the natural feel of the yarn, which is an alpaca mix so it is lovely and warm!

You will need:

  • 140m SMC Aventica Supreme yarn (aran or worsted weight)
  • Size 5mm hook
  • 2 large buttons (approx. 28mm diameter)

Pattern (make 2):

To make longer or shorter gloves just add or remove multiples of 3 to the starting chain, and increase or decrease the number of V sts (dc, ch1, dc) accordingly.

Ch 39

R1: dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in each ch to end, ch2, turn (37 sts)

R2: dc in each st to end, ch2, turn, (37 sts)

R3: dc in each of the next 6 sts, sk 1 st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next st, sk 2 sts, repeat from * 7 times, (dc, ch1, dc) in next st, sk 1 st, dc in each of the last 4 sts, ch2, turn (37 sts)

R4: dc in next 4 sts, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next ch-sp, repeat from * 8 times, sk 1 st, dc in each of the last 6 sts, ch2, turn (37 sts)

R5: dc in each of the next 6 sts, sk 1 st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next ch-sp, repeat from * 8 times, sk 1 st, dc in each of the last 4 sts, ch2, turn (37 sts)

R6&7: Repeat row 2

R8: dc in next 4 sts, sk 1 st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next st, sk 2 sts, repeat from * 9 times, (dc, ch1, dc), dc in final st, ch2, turn (37 sts)

R9: dc in 1st st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in ch-sp, repeat from * 10 times, sk 1 st, dc in each of last 4 sts, ch2, turn (37 sts)

R10: dc in next 4 sts, sk 1 st, *(dc, ch1, dc) in ch-sp, repeat from * 10 times, dc in final st, ch2, turn (37 sts)

Continue to repeat R9 and 10 until the piece is wide enough to wrap around your lower arm and hand. This was 6 more rows for mine.

If you finished on a row 9, break yarn and re-join at the other end to start working the fastening flap.  Ch2 and turn work.  If you finished on a row 10, you are already in the right place, do not break yarn.

Work the flap as follows:

R1: 6 hdc, ch2, turn (6 sts)

Repeat row 1 until the flap is the desired length to the buttonhole location.  This was 8 rows total on my version.

R2: 2 hdc, ch2, sk 2 sts, 2 hdc, ch2, turn (6sts)

R3: hdc in first 2 sts, 2 hdc in ch sp, hdc in last 2 sts, ch1, turn (6 sts)

R4: sc2tog, sc, sc, sc2tog, ch1, turn (4 sts)

R5: sc2tog, sc2tog, ch1, turn (2 sts)

R6: sc2tog (1 st)

Fasten off and weave in ends.  Fold in half lengthways and sew up the seam approximately two thirds of the way up, making sure you leave enough room for a thumbhole.  Sew a button to the placket formed by the rows of 6 dc’s.  On the second glove, make sure you sew the button on the opposite side so you end up with a left and a right, rather than 2 rights or 2 lefts!  (You can just turn the glove inside out to reverse it).

Block as desired.

  6. I love your fingerless glove pattern, I hope I can figure it out!! not sure about the flap part though

  7. I love your fingerless glove pattern, I have completed the glove part; however, I can not figure out how to do the flap. I’m a little confused. Can you help?

      • I completed the glove and ready to start the flap. Thank you so much for responding back to me Esther. I truly appreciate it!

      • Great! So to make the flap you’ll be crocheting a strip which is 6 stitches wide, to wrap over the hand. The strip has a buttonhole at the end, to fasten on to the button, which you’ll be sewing on to the section which is solid crochet at the end. So if you finished on a row 9 you’ll need to attach the yarn to the other end so you can work the flap in the right place. To make the flap, just turn and crochet 6hdc in each of the next 6 stitches, but then don’t finish the row, just turn and work back along the stitches you’ve just worked. continue until it’s long enough to work the buttonhole. I hope that helps!

  8. Awesome Esther!!! Thank you so very much. I had wrote to you previously also on the Icicles Hat that I wanted to make for my granddaughter she is 3 months young and her sister that will be turning 3 th 20th of December (this month) and she is a twin! I needed help also on the stitch for the hat. When I (dc,ch,dc) that is the V-stitch right? However, my hat is coming out with spaces and not dense like the one you have looks like.

Can you please also assist me in that beautiful hat? I would love for my granddaughters to be matching! It is a beautiful hat!!!

Thank you once again, for all that you have done! BEAUTIFUL WORK!

    Esther

    • Hi Esther! Yes, I haven’t replied to that comment because you included your email address, and if I replied it would publish it on the site for all to see. Can you leave me another comment on that page and then hopefully my reply will help anyone else making the icicles hat too? Thanks! I’m so pleased you are enjoying my patterns :)
