The Knitch and a Free Dishcloth Pattern
Last Thursday couldn’t come quick enough. Every other Thursday is when our knitting club meets , and this week it was at my house!
There was yarn. There was show and tell. There were babies ( OK, just one baby). There was wine! During show and tell, Emily whipped out her optimistic mitts! I was so excited to see a finished pair. Her sister Abby was starting a pair too! My cup runneth over friends!
Check out Emily’s adorable tea cozy she made! No one likes cold tea! Ok, well some people like iced tea. I guess what I meant to say was, no one like unintentionally lukewarm tea. Even if you could care less about the temperature of your tea, you have to admit this little teapot looks quite dashing in it’s little turtleneck, no?

I showed the girls a couple little dishcloths I had made, and they insisted I put up the pattern. Sometimes I feel silly even bothering to put up such a simple pattern, but they made a good point that it is nice to just pick up your needles and knit something, and not wonder how many stitches to cast on and what pattern to use.The girls also brought up the point that a lot of dishcloth patterns are a little too ” granny” looking. I think this pattern is much more modern. A stack of these would make a great gift for newlyweds, or someone moving into their first place.
My favorite feature is the little nubby seed stitch bumps for extra scrubbing power! Here it is!
Devin’s Dishcloth
size 7 straight or circular needles
worsted weight cotton ( I used Lion Brand Cotton Evergreen and Seaspray)
cast on 40 stitches on size 7 needles
rows 1-10; knit all stitches
row 11 :k5, *p1,k1* until 5 stitches remain, k last 5 stitches
row 12: k5. *k1,p1* until 5 stiches remain, k last 5 stitches
repeat rows 11 &12 28 more times
knit all stitches of last 10 rows
bind off loosely
Now go clean something!

I love the dishcloth pattern. The simplicity of it helps me understand how knitting is actually constructed. I am pretty good at just doing a pattern by following exactly what it tells me to do, but I never really slow down to think about why I am doing it. Thanks!

Great dishcloths! just found your pattern on Ravelry and am working one now 🙂 i wanted to take a break from crocheting my granny square blanket and do some mindless knitting, so this is a perfect little pattern for that 🙂
