I’m a very basic knitter…I haven’t been using round needles because I was given a full set of straight needles from my aunt. I love the “rolled up” bottom effect on this hat. Can anyone tell me if I can I create that rolled up bottom without round circular needles?

the curling up comes from the lack of ribbing so it should work just the same.

So I was told a Stockinette stitch would create this effect. How many rows of stockinette would get this effect?

yes, it should start to roll after the 4th or 5th row, it will naturally curl up, ribbing prevents it from curling up, unless the pattern calls for the curl.
