Yoga or Dance Socks – Knitting Pattern

Published by

on

It's been a while since I posted a new pattern, so it's time.

These socks are fantastic for yoga or dance, as your toes and heels are free to grip the floor, but your ankles stay warm!

You will need:

4mm double pointed needles (4)

Ball DK yarn. I've found that about 50-60g works, depending on your tension.

Cast on 48 stitches, 16 on each needle. The sock starts at the toe end.

Rib 8 rows, (k1, p1.)

Knit 6 rows.

For the following 7 rotations, rib (k1, p1) 24 stitches, knit the remaining 24.

On the 8th rotation, cast off 24 stitches, keeping the rib pattern going. When you have done this do not complete the row. Instead, using the next stitch on the needles as a starter, cast on 24 stitches. Rib 24, then knit the remaining 24 stitches in the rotation. This creates the gap for the heel.

For the following 7 rotations, rib (k1, p1) 24 stitches, knit the remaining 24.

Knit 12 rotations.

Rib 8 rows, and cast off loosely.

Darn in your ends, make a second sock, and DANCE!

I personally have pretty fat ankles since my broken ankle 4 years ago. Fit my chunky ankles, I used 20 stitches on each needle, a total of 60 stitches. In the cast off section of the heel, I cast off 30, rather than 24. I also like to use a double rib for a slightly wider fitting, k2, p2 repeated.
