Our Kilo Set scarf is knit in a wave stitch pattern. Coordinating mittens and hat are knit in feather and fan stitch. Crocheters, take a look at Dram, the crocheted version of this set.

4 Balls Berroco Keltic (50 grs), #5864 Queen Anne (A) for Hat and Mittens plus 3 balls for Scarf

3 balls #5863 Galloway (B) for Scarf

Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 and 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE for Hat

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 10 for Scarf

1 Set (4) double pointed knitting needles (dpn), size 10 for Mittens

2 St holders

1 St marker

Tapestry needle

 

Gauge

16 sts = 4”;  20 rows = 4” in St st on size 10 needles

Stitch Glossary

DVC (Double Vertical Dec)

Insert RH needle into next 2 sts as if you were knitting them tog and sl the 2 sts to RH needle; k the next st on LH needle, then pull the 2 slipped sts over the k st – 2 sts dec’d.

 

Hat

With smaller straight needles, using A, cast on 90 sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows twice more, then rep Row 1 once more, end on RS.  Change to larger straight needles and p the next row, inc 23 sts evenly spaced across – 113 sts.

Establish Pat St:  Row 1 (RS):  K7, (DVC, k13) 6 times, DVC, k7 – 99 sts.

Row 2 and all WS rows:  Purl.

Row 3:  K6, (DVC, k11) 6 times, DVC, k6 – 85 sts.

Row 5:  K5, (DVC, k9) 6 times, DVC, k5 – 71 sts.

Row 7:  K1, (yo, k1) 3 times, * yo, DVC, (yo, k1) 7 times, rep from * 6 times, yo, DVC, (yo, k1) 4 times – 113 sts.

Row 8:  Purl.  Rep these 8 rows 3 times more, end on WS.  Piece should measure approximately 6” from beg.

Shape Top:  Dec Row 1 (RS):  K2, k2 tog, * k3, DVC, (k3, k2 tog) twice, rep from * 5 times more, k3, DVC, k3, k2 tog, k2 – 85 sts.

Row 2:  Purl.

Row 3:  K1, k2 tog, * k2, DVC, k2, k2 tog, k1, k2 tog, rep from * 5 times more, k2, DVC, k2, k2 tog, k1 – 57 sts.

Row 4:  Purl.

Row 5:  K2 tog, * k1, DVC, k1, k3 tog, rep from * 5 times more, k1, DVC, k1, k2 tog – 29 sts.

Row 6:  Purl.

Row 7:  K1, * k2 tog, rep from * across – 15 sts.  Break off yarn leaving an end for sewing.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needle.  Pull up tightly and secure.  Sew back seam.

 

Right Mitten

With smaller straight needles, using A, cast on 46 sts.  Work in ribbing same as hat for 2 1/4”, end on RS.  Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 8 sts evenly spaced across – 38 sts.

Establish Pat St:  Row 1 (RS):  K3, SSK, k13, k2 tog, k18 – 36 sts.

Row 2 and all WS rows:  Purl.

Row 3:  K3, SSK, k11, k2 tog, k18 – 34 sts.

Row 5:  K3, SSK, k9, k2 tog, k18 – 32 sts.

Row 7:  K3, SSK, (yo, k1) 7 times, yo, k2 tog, k18 – 38 sts.

Row 8:  Purl.  Rep these 8 rows once more, end on WS – 38 sts.

Divide for Thumb:  Next Row (RS):  K3, SSK, k13, k2 tog, k1, sl 19 sts from RH needle onto holder;  k6, sl remaining 11 sts onto another holder – 6 sts.

Thumb:  Cast on 7 sts – 13 sts.  Divide sts onto 3 dpn’s, mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) for 2”.

Next Rnd:  K1, * k2 tog, rep from * around – 7 sts.  Break off yarn leaving an end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles.  Pull up tightly and secure.  Weave in end.

Hand:  With RS facing, sl 19 sts from 1st holder onto larger straight needle;  join A and pick up and k6 sts across cast-on sts of thumb, k11 sts from 2nd holder – 36 sts.  Purl 1 row.  Beg with Row 3, continue to work even in Pat St until a total of 4 repeats have been completed (32 rows from top of ribbing), end on WS – 38 sts.  Rep Rows 1-6 of Pat St once more, end on WS – 32 sts.

Shape Top:  Dec Row (RS):  K3, SSK, k7, k2 tog, k1, (k2 tog) 8 times, k1 – 22 sts.  Purl 1 row, knit 1 row, purl 1 row, end on WS.  Break off yarn leaving an end for sewing.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needle.  Pull up tightly and secure.  Sew side seam.

 

Left Mitten

Work same as right mitten piece measures 2 1/4” from beg, end on WS having changed to larger needles – 38 sts.

Establish Pat St:  Row 1 (RS):  K18, SSK, k13, k2 tog, k3 – 36 sts.  Complete to correspond to right mitten reversing all shaping.  Work thumb 11 sts in from beg of RS row.

 

Scarf

Stripe Sequence

Working in Pat St, work 2 rows A, 2 rows B, 4 rows A, then 4 rows B.  Rep these 12 rows for Stripe Sequence.

With circular needle, using A, cast on 289 sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K1, * M1k, k10, k3 tog, k10, M1k, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  Knit.  Rep these 2 rows, following Stripe Sequence until piece measures 8” from beg.  Bind off.
