Cotton Chenille Baby Cardigan

Velvety soft and plush knit sweater with
Crystal Palace Cotton Chenille

Sizes: Baby- 6-9 (12) (18-24) months
Finished garment at chest: 21.5 (22.5) (23.5)

Materials:
Crystal Palace Cotton Chenille: - 3 (3) (4)- 50 gram balls, color #3646 (MC) and 1- 50 gram ball #412 "Dreamy"
Needles: Crystal Palace Bamboo or CPY DAISY Needles US size 6
One ¾-1” button

Gauge: 4sts = 1" on size 6 needles in Stockinette st, be sure to do a gauge swatch. [Knitters find their gauge varies with Cotton Chenille and it is important to do a swatch.]

Abbreviations: BO-bind off; CC-contrast color; CO-cast on; k-knit; MC-main color; meas-measures; p-purl; rep-repeat; RS-right side; sl-slip; tbl-through back loop; tog-together; yo-yarn over.

Back
Using MC cast on 43 (45) (47) sts. Knit 2 rows. Begin Knotty Stripe pattern as follows:

Knotty Stripe:
Note: slip stitch purlwise, with yarn in back.
Row 1 (RS): Using MC, knit.
Row 2: Using MC, k1, purl to last st, k1.
Row 3: Using CC, k1, (k1, yo, k1) into next st, *sl 1, (k1, yo, k1) into next st; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 4: Using CC, k1, k3tog tbl, *sl 1, k3tog tbl; rep from * to last st, end k1
Row 5: Using MC, knit.
Row 6: Using MC, k1, p to last st, k1.
Row 7: using CC, k2, (k1, yo, k1) into next st, *sl 1, (k1, YO, k1) into next st; rep from * end k2.
Row 8: Using CC, K1, p1, k3 tog tbl, * sl 1, k3 tog tbl; rep from *, end p1, k1.
Repeat rows 1-4, once, a total of 12 patt rows worked. Using MC only, work in Stockinette St until piece meas 5.25 (6.75) (7)”. Place underarm markers at beg and end of work. Continue until piece meas a total of 10 (12) (12.75)” from CO edge. Bind off all sts across back.

Front (Make 2)

Right Front
Using MC cast on 19 (21) (23). Knit 2 rows. Work 12 rows Knotty Stripe pattern. Using MC work in Stockinette St until piece meas 2.5 (3) (3.5)” above armhole marker, end after working RS row.

Shape Neck:
Wrong side of work facing, work 16 (18) (19) sts; slip last 3 (3) (4) sts to holder. Dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row, 4 (5) (5) times, until 12 (13) (14) sts remain. Work even until armhole meas 4.5 (5.25) (5.5)”. BO 12 (13) (14) sts.

Left Front
Work same as for Right front end after working WS row.

Shape Neck
Right side facing, work 16 (18) (19) sts, slip last 3 (3) (4) sts to holder. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row, 4 (5) (5) times, until 12 (13) (14) sts remain. Work even until armhole meas 4.5 (5.25) (5.5)”. BO 12 (13) (14) sts.

Sleeves
Using MC, CO 25 (29) (29) sts. Knit 2 rows. Work 12 rows Knotty pattern. Using MC only. Begin Stockinette St, increase 1 st at each end of next row, then every row 2; 3 (0) (0) times; every row 4; 3 (4) (5) times and every row 6, (0) (2) (2) times. 39 (43) (45) sts. Work even if necessary, until sleeve meas 5 (6.5) (7)”. BO all sts.

Finishing
Sew shoulder seams across 12 (13) (14) sts. Center sleeve top to shoulder and sew sleeves to sweater body. Sew sleeve and underarm side seams. Work Collar and button loop. Sew button opposite button loop. Work in all ends. Steam block.

Collar
Using MC, RS facing, pick up 3 (3) (4) sts from right front holder, 10 (11) (12) from right front neck edge, 17 (19) (21) sts from back, 10 (11) (12) from left front edge and 3 (3) (4) sts from left front holder. 43 (47) (53) sts. Work 2 (2) (4) rows stockinette. Knit 1 row increasing 6 (8) (8) sts evenly across row. 49 (55) (61) sts. Purl 1 row. Work 12 rows Knotty Stripe pattern same as for bottom edge. Knit 2 rows. BO loosely.

Front Trim and Button Loop

For Boy: Left Front, RS facing, using crochet hook, attach yarn at body- collar join, work 2 sc, chain 5 for button loop (or length necessary to fit around button), join with slip stitch at base of chain 5, continue to single crochet along front edge to bottom CO edge, fasten off. With RS of collar facing, join yarn at body- collar join, sc along short edge to end of collar, fasten off.

Right Front: RS facing join yarn at bottom CO edge, single crochet along front edge to body-collar join. Fasten off. RS of collar facing, join yarn at collar end and sc along short end of collar to body- collar join. Fasten off.

For Girl: Work same as for boy, making loop on Right front.
