Night Coffee Hat

Hi everyone! February nights are really cold, so wearing hats is a must. This month's theme is hats; right now I'm interested in designing knitted headwear, like beanies or slouchies. For my first hat design, I'm using the seersucker pattern. It's very simple to knit and has a nice baklava pattern, plus, knitting this hat only takes a couple of hours to finish. I made one for my husband and he loved it, and I hope you will like it too!

Instructions:

Cast on 72 (80, 88) sts, join in the round. Don't know how to join in the round? here is a short tutorial on how to do it (from 0:26 - 1:15 min):

Put the ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds.

Ribs Pattern:

Row: (p 1, k 3), repeat to end.

Repeat this row 7 times.

Seersucker Pattern:

Row 1: (k 1, p 1), repeat to end.

Row 2: repeat row 1.

Row 3: (k 2, p 1, k 1), repeat to end.

Row 4: repeat row 3.

Row 5: (k 1, p 1), repeat to end.

Row 6: repeat row 5.

Row 7: (p 1, k 3), repeat to end.

Row 8: repeat row 7.

Repeat rows (1 - 8) two (three, three) times, then repeat rows (1 - 6) of the pattern once.

Decreasing rows:

Row 1: (p 1, s2s1ktog, p 1, k 3), repeat to end. 54 (60, 66) sts

Row 2: (p 1, k 1, p1, k 3), repeat to end.

Row 3: (p 1, k 1, p 1, s2s1ktog), repeat to end, 36 (40, 44) sts

Rows 4 and 5: (p 1, k 1), repeat to end.

Row 6: k2tog to end. 18 (20, 22) sts

Rows 7 and 8: k to end.

Row 9: k2tog to end. 9 (10, 11) sts

Cut yarn, leaving a 6" (15 cm) long yarn tail, pull it through all sts and tighten tog. Weave in loose ends.

  1. Hi there - Love this hat. I am looking at the Seersucker Pattern section. I believe that Row 6 should read "Repeat Row 5" rather than Row 4. Is that correct?
    Happy Knitting.
