I’m continuing the Christmas in July festivities with the adorable knit amigurumi tree pattern for Bruce the Spruce Tree! This is a simple pattern, knit flat, and you can adjust it to a larger size if you’d like.

It’s been really fun to see all the patterns in this year’s Christmas in July Make Along. This year we didn’t have as many knitting designers as last year, so since my Knit Along with KAL Corner pattern had a July date, I decided to keep with the Christmas in July theme.
Since all the patterns in the Knit Along with KAL Corner use DK yarn, I used King Cole Island Beaches DK for my version. It’s one of three lines of yarn that have the same yardage, fiber content, and thickness to make substitution easy. Beaches DK is a variegated yarn, Island Beaches DK is a single color variation, and Paradise Beaches DK is a solid yarn. All three are a super soft acrylic and polyamide blend. You can buy them through your local yarn shop or online at LoveCrafts or Wool Warehouse UK.
Gauge isn’t important for this pattern, so feel free to use any weight yarn you like and a needle that is a bit smaller than what you’d normally use for that yarn weight. That will keep your stitches tight so the fiber filling doesn’t show through.

Bruce the Spruce Tree
Knit Amigurumi Tree Pattern by Underground Crafter
This simple amigurumi Christmas tree can be further embellished with beads, buttons, or yarn “tinsel.”
Finished Size
- Approximately 3.75” (9.5 cm) tall before stuffing.
Materials
- King Cole Island Beaches DK yarn (70% acrylic/30% polyamide, 3.5 oz/100 g, 278 yd/255 m) – 1 skein each in 4530 Palm (CA), 4526 Pebble (CB), and 4527 Pink Coral (CC), or approximately 20 yd (18.5 m) in CA, 10 yd (9 m) in CB, and 1 yd (1 m) in CC in any light weight yarn.
- US Size 2.5/3 mm knitting needles, or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.
- 6 mm black safety eyes – 1 pair.
- Fairfield Poly-Fil Premium Polyester Fiber Fill.
- Clover Chibi yarn needles.
Gauge
- 27 sts rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette st. Exact gauge is not critical for this pattern.

- CA – Color A
- CB – Color B
- CC – Color C
- CO – cast on
- k – knit
- k2tog – knit 2 stitches together (decrease) – Very Pink Knits has a helpful video tutorial for the k2tog decrease here.
- p – purl
- rep – repeat
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- () Repeat instructions between parentheses into same stitch.

Pattern Instructions
Tree
Increase to crease
- With CA, CO 3 sts.
- Row 1: P across.
- Row 2: (Right Side) (K1, p1) in first st, k to last st, (p1, k1) in last st. (Increases by 2 sts)
- Row 3: Rep Row 1.
- Rows 4-25: Rep Rows 2-3, 11 times. (27 sts)
Form crease
- Rows 26-27: Rep Row 1 twice.
Decrease to tip
- Row 28: K2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog. (Decreases by 2 sts)
- Row 29: Rep Row 1.
- Rows 30-53: Rep Rows 28-29, 11 times. (3 sts)
Bind off as to knit. Fasten off with a long yarn tail (approximately 18”/46 cm) for seaming.
Trunk
- With CB, CO 9 sts.
- Row 1: K across.
- Rows 2-8: Rep Row 1, 7 times.
- Row 9: (Right Side) P across.
- Rows 10-17: Rep Row 1, 8 times.
- Bind off as to knit. Fasten off with a long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm) for seaming.
Assembly and Finishing
- With yarn needle, weave in ends from cast on yarn onto wrong side of each piece.
- Position safety eyes above the crease on the right side of the Tree, using picture as guide. When satisfied with position, attach firmly by securing washers on back.
- Thread yarn needle with CC. Embroider a partial smile using the back stitch (see Pattern Notes). Weave in CC ends on wrong side.
- Fold Tree at crease. With yarn needle and long tail in CA, seam first angled edges together with the mattress stitch (see Pattern Notes). Set aside.
- Fold Trunk at crease in Row 9. With yarn needle and long tail in CB, seam long edge together with mattress stitch (see Pattern Notes). Seam first short edge together with mattress stitch. Keep one short edge open.
- Center next long edge of Trunk along Tree at crease. Seam Trunk to Tree with mattress stitch (see Pattern Notes).
- Stuff Trunk with fiber filling. Seam last short edge closed with mattress stitch (see Pattern Notes). With yarn needle, weave in ends of CB on inside of Trunk.
- Pick up Tree and yarn needle threaded with CA. Gently and loosely draw CA through Tree on the inside along the crease. Do not tighten or it will pucker. Stuff Tree with fiber filling.
- With yarn needle, seam second angled edge of Tree closed with mattress stitch (see Pattern Notes). With yarn needle, weave in ends of CA on inside of Tree.
