Short Overview of the Pattern:

The poncho is worked top-down, seamlessly, in rounds. To the 11th round the poncho is worked as a tube, then the increases are made at 4 points marked with stitch markers, after several rounds the increases are made at 2 points. Be careful to read where the increases are made: on the shoulders they are made before and after 1 stitch: m1, sm, k1, m1, at the center back and front the increases are made before and after 2 sts: m1, k1, sm, k1, m1

The poncho is worked in stockinette, the hem of the poncho is worked in garter stitch.

Poncho

Loosely cast on 38 sts, close into round, place a marker to mark the beginning of the round, this is the first marker, slip marker white working.

Work 10 rounds in stockinette- all rounds knit. While working round 10, place markers:

Round 10: slip the first marker, k9, place the second marker, k10, place the third marker, k 9, place the fourth marker, k10.

Round 11 and all odd numbered rounds are increase rnds: sm, k1, m1, knit all sts till the second marker, m1, sm, k1, m1, knit all sts till one st remains before the third marker, m1, k1, sm, k1, m1, knit all sts till the forth marker, m1, sm, k1, m1, knit all sts till the last marker, m1, k1. The number of sts in each odd numbered round will increase by 8.

Here is the Rnd 11 in numbers: sm, k1, m1, k8, m1, sm, k1, m1, k8, m1, k1, sm, k1, m1, k8, m1, sm, k1, m1, k8, m1, k1. = 46 sts

Round 12 and all even numbered rounds: knit all sts, slip markers while working.

Repeat rounds 11 and 12 eight more times.

Number of stitches after increases:
Round 13 = 54 sts
Round 15= 62 sts
Round 17= 70 sts
Round 19= 78 sts
Round 21= 86 sts
Round 23 = 94 sts
Round 25 = 102 sts
Round 27 =110 sts

Remove the second and the fourth markers (the shoulder markers). Now you have only 2 markers remaining - the center of the back (it's also the beginning of the round) and the center of the front.

Round 29 (increase round): sm, k1, m1, knit all sts till one st remains before the next marker, m1, k1, sm, k1, m1, knit all sts till the last marker, m1, k1. =114 sts

Rounds 30-32: knit all sts, sm while working.

Repeat rounds 29 - 32 two more times. If you want the poncho to be longer, repeat these 4 rounds 3 more times.

Work 8 rounds in garter stitch: Odd rounds purl around, even rounds knit around.

Bind off.

Finishing:

Weave in yarn ends. Block if needed.

Have fun!
