Bright Stripes Baby Blanket

Free Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern

The blanket features colorful stripes, worked in stockinette and garter stitch. The garter stitch border is worked along with the body of the blanket. The blanket is very easy to knit and is a good pattern for a beginner.

Skills Required/Techniques Used:
-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

Size: 40” x 46” (100 cm x 115 cm)

Materials: Red Heart (affiliate link) Super Saver 100% acrylic yarn, aran weight, 333 m (364 yds)/198 g 5 colors: white, bright yellow, bright blue, sky blue, ice blue – 1 skein each.

Needles: US size 9 (5.5 mm) long circular needles OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 16 sts x 24 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm) in stockinette st.

Notions:
tapestry needle, scissors

Abbreviations:
k - knit
p - purl
st, sts - stitch, stitches
RS - right side
WS - wrong side

Pattern Notes:

Stockinette in rows:
Row 1 (RS): knit
Row 2: purl
Repeat 2 rows.

Garter stitch in rows: all rows knit.


Short Overview of the Pattern:

This charming baby blanket is designed for beginners. The main feature of the design are colored stripes of different widths repeated in a rhythmic order. The borders of the blanket are worked together with the body in garter stitch.

Blanket

With yellow yarn, cast on 150 sts

Row 1 (RS): knit till last st, p1.

Repeat row1 four (4) more times, rows 2-3-4 in yellow, 5-6 ice blue, rows 7-8 in sky blue, rows 9-10 in bright blue

Row 11 (RS) in white yarn: knit till last st, p1.

Row 12 (WS): knit 5, purl till last 5 sts, k4, p1.

Repeat rows 11-12 five more times. (13-14, 15-16, 17-18, 19-20, 21-22)

Work the next 6 rows in garter stitch: rows 23-24 in bright blue, rows 25-26 in sky blue, rows 27-28 in ice blue.

Work the next 12 rows (rows 29-40) in yellow as rows 11-12.

Work the next 6 rows (41-46) in garter stitch: 2 rows in ice blue, 2 rows in sky blue, 2 rows in bright blue.

Repeat the pattern from row 11 through 46 six (6) more times. Repeat rows 11-28 one more time.

Work 4 rows in garter st in yellow thread.

Bind off, cut yarn.

Finishing:

Weave in all yarn ends.
