Riverside Scarf

This is the third of a set of three free, easy scarf knitting patterns I’m sharing this winter. I really like this one because I really enjoy knitting broken rib stich. If you don’t know what broken rib stitch is, it’s a rib stitch made up columns of knit stitches with seed stitches. The most common version of this stitch pattern is columns of single knit stitches with columns of single seed stitches (that’s the version I use for this scarf).

For this scarf, I’ve added a m1 at one end and k2tog to the other end so that the scarf is a parallelogram with the angled ends. Here’s a close-up of the stitch pattern:

The simple increases and decreases are good for an advanced beginner ready to take on a knitting project with some simple shaping. If you’re a more advanced knitter, this project is perfect if you’re looking for a fairly easy, mindful knitting project.

Like the other two scarves (the Shipyard Scarf and the East Bay Scarf), this scarf is generously sized. It’s 11″ wide and is 78″ long from tip to tip. The Riverside Scarf is knit using Lion Brand’s Mandala Watercolor yarn. I like this yarn because it’s really soft and I really liked the way the stripes knit up (I wouldn’t recommend it for garments, but it’s a good yarn for accessories!). There are a tone of soft bulky yarns out there and you could use a thicker aran weight yarn. Another Lion Brand option is Scarfie yarn.

There are two ways to access this free pattern. First, you can keep reading. The full pattern is in this blog post. The second way to get the pattern is to use the download button below to get the free pdf:
