Ever Lovely Shawl

Difficulty level: ** Easy

Free Shawl Knitting Pattern

You can purchase this shawl from my Etsy shop.

This is a very easy shawl to knit. Except for the first 2 rows, the pattern is a repetition of rows 3-4. You can knit it to any size you wish. Just stop when it is large enough. I worked the shawl shown in variegated Araucania (affiliate link) yarn and finished it with a solid stripe.

You can use any combination of variegated and solid yarns: you can have multiple stripes, in different widths, and so on.

The shawl is knitted in garter stitch and easy for beginner knitters.

Pattern Notes:

Garter st in rows: all rows knit

The selvedge/edge stitches are worked as follows: knit the first stitch and purl the last one.

Short Overview of the Pattern:

The shawl is worked in one piece in garter stitch. It begins at the center back neck and is shaped by working m1 increases around the central stitch in every right side (RS) row and yarn over (yo) increases at the edges in every row. Thus, in every RS row the number of sts is increased by 4, in every WS row - by 2. The markers will help you to see the central stitch, always slip markers as you come to them. The central stitch is knitted in the RS rows and purled in WS rows.

Shawl:

Cast on 5 sts. Foundation row: knit 4, purl 1.

Row 1(RS): K1, kfr&b, pm, k1, pm, kfr&b, p1 = 7 sts

Row 2 (WS) : k3, sm, p1, sm, k2, p1

Row 3 (RS and all RS rows from now on): K2, yo, knit till marker, m1, sm, k1, sm, m1, knit till last 2 sts, yo, k 1, p1. + 4 sts

Row 4 (WS and all WS rows): K2, yo, knit till marker, sm, p1, sm, knit to last 2 sts, yo, k1, p1. + 2 sts

Repeat rows 3-4 to desired size.

Bind off loosely.

Finishing:

Weave in all yarn ends. Block.

Have fun!
