Despicable Me Edith Beanie – Knitting Pattern

Published by

There seems to be no end to the popularity of the “Despicable Me” knitting patterns, and I admit, they are cute. This one is the Edith beanie as she wears in the film, oversized and with ear flaps.

Cut yarn, leaving 30cm, thread all stitches onto the yarn, pull to tighten

Cut 3 sets of 6 lengths of yarn. Fold the first set in half, stitch to the top of the hat, braid the tassels and tie a knot at the end. The other 2 sets should be folded in half and threaded through the holes in the ear flaps, braided and tied.

What is your gauge? St per inch?

      Hello…. Hopefully this makes sense…
      For a 10cm by 10cm square: 22 stitches, 30 rows.

Looking at the pattern, I cannot see how many balls of wool to get?

    1. juanamac Avatar

Hiya, this hat needs 2 balls of wool. One in the pale pink and one in the dark pink. 😀

hi on the ear flaps its all in knit is this correct. How can i make this smaller for a child plz x

Heya Helen, this hat fits most children. To make it smaller, reduce the needle size to 3.5mm… that is the easiest way.

Do you have toddler sized pattern or child size?

    1. juanamac Avatar

Not specifically – but the difference in size is most easily made by increasing the ear flaps to only 21 stitches, and casting on 20 after the ear flap, which would give you 82 stitches in total – which is about what a toddlers hat would be. In the striped sections I would have 6 rows of each colour. The decrease would have left over stitches at the end of each row for a bit, but just knit those (it really won’t affect the overall hat design). Does that help?

Hi, I’m totally new to knitting and trying to start your Edith hat for an adult size for myself. What length should the 4mm Circular needles be for this project? Thanks

Love this hat and want to make it for daughter. On row 3, what does yrn mean. Thanks

Righto – so it’s “yarn ‘round needle” – basically bringing the yarn around the needle to create an extra stitch that also creates a small hole in the fabric that the tassel will later thread through.
