Oh Cary Grant *swooon* Could he be any more perfect!!

No Idle Han

Cary Grant learns to knit!
A little discovery I made after googling “men knitting” (what can I say? everyone has a fetish).
I’d love to see the rest of the film – ‘Mister Lucky’, made in 1943 with Cary Grant as Joe Bascopolous, Laraine Day as Dorothy Bryant and Florence Bates as Mrs Van Every, the knitting instructor.

Some favourite quotes:
“We want a group of obviously masculine men to take up knitting, do it perfectly casually in public places.”
“We’ll educate those little piggies!”
“Take off your hat! Take that cigarette out of your mouth! Now siddown! ..Give him the needles!”
“Oh! Don’t be alarmed young man.. let me look at your hands..”
“You take the one gimick and you stickitinhere like this, and then you take the string and putitbetween the two gimicks and then you takeit and you just..all off!.. that’s all there is to it!”

Is Etsy all it’s cracked up to be?

Standard

So in one of my more inspired moments, I created a thing. A knit thing… Apparently this thing has quite a bit of sales power. So now I’m making this thing in many colors, patterns, designs, etc. Now here comes the part that I’m not so sure of. What site can I use, for free, that will display my product, allow ordering, and use paypal to recieve payment. Immediately, I thought of Etsy. Sounds good, right? But unfortunately, I don’t know anyone who uses Etsy to sell their goods… Is there anyone out there that has any advice, info, or suggestions??

So Simple Chunky Knit Slightly Slouchy Hat

Standard

Just a super simple, plain ole, sexy, stylish, slightly slouchy hat for any gender, age, or style persuasion.
st= stitch
K= knit
P= purl
K2tog= knit 2 st together

Ribbing- Size 10 16″ circulars Main Body- Size 15 16″ circulars

Cast on 54 st on size 10s (This will give you a hat to fit the average woman’s head.You can easily change the size of that by increasing or decreasing stitches by multiples of 4.)
K2, P1 (clustered rib st) repeated around for 10 rows
Switch to size 15s (I have the Denise interchangeable kntting set, so it’s super easy for me to switch needle sizes. I HIGHLY recommend getting one of these if you are a hardcore knitterbug! http://www.knitdenise.com/)

We’ll be finishing in stockinette st (just knit, no purling) I would also recommend using a stitch marker! It will make keeping to the pattern easier.
Knit about 6″-8″ and then we’ll start our decrease rows.

*K4, K2tog* repeat around
*K3, K2tog* repeat around
*K2, K2tog* repeat around
*K1, K2tog* repeat around (Be sure to leave about 4″6″ of tail before you cut the yarn)

Using a tapestry needle (or a crochet hook if you have to) thread the remaining tail through the knit loops. Pull tight, securely knot, and then weave in the remaining tail.

And there you have it! Easy peasy super simple very sexy slightly slouchy hat!

The Funky Baker Crocheted Hat

Standard

So I was bored today while waiting to pick up my daughter from the bustop so I srted fiddling around with some new crochet hooks. I frogged the houndstooth hat and picked up the biggest, fattest crochet hook I had and went to town on a pile of Lion’s Brand Wool-Ease in Claret. I created the most perfect slouchy hat ever. It’s warm enough for winter, it breathes really well, and it’s stylish. Not to mention It takes less than 1 skein of yarn (maybe 2/3) and about 1 hour. So here you are ladies and gentlemen. You’re welcome 😉

So grab your P or Q hook and some super-bulky yarn and Magic Ring it! (5 hdc)
R1: 2hdc in each of 5 st (10st)
R2: *1hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st* repeat 4x (15st)
R3: *1hdc in each of next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st* repeat 4x (20st)
R4: *1hdc in each of next 3 st, 2 hdc in next st* repeat 4x (25st)
R5-10: hdc evenly around (25st)
Make sure you’ve got the length you want and tie off, tucking in the tail.

Now here’s where I got all crazy. I personally don’t like the way that crochet ribbing looks, so I whipped out my size 11 circulars cast on 50 st (2 ribbing per 1 crochet) and did 8 rows of Clustered Ribbing (k2, p1) and then crocheted the 2 pieces together. If you’re not terribly handy with knitting, you can go ahead and do some ribbing with an I hook or a J hook.

So there we have it folks 🙂 Happy Hooking!
