Materials: *1 skein each Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton in Sand, Bone and Nut
*US size 7 (or size to obtain gauge) 12 inch- circular for infant size or 16 inch-circular needle for baby and toddler sizes.
*US size 7 dpn’s (or size to obtain gauge)
*US H crochet hook
Gauge: 4 sts per inch
Seed Stitch:
Round 1: K1, P1 to end
Round 2: P1, K1 to end
Simple Seed Texture:
Round 1: *P1, K3* to end
Rounds 2-4: knit
Round 5: k2 *P1, K3* to last 2 stitches P1, K1
Rounds 6-8: knit
Hat
Sizes: 3-6mo (6-12mo, 1-2yrs)
With Sand, cast on 48(56, 64) stitches. Place stitch marker and join for working in the round, making sure stitches are not twisted. Knit 8 rounds.
Begin Hat Band:
Round 1: Knit with Nut.
Round 2: Purl with Nut.
Rounds 3-10: Seed stitch with Bone.
Round 11: Knit with Nut.
Round 12: Purl with Nut.
Hat Body:
Round 13: Begin Seed Texture with sand. Continue until hat measures 51/2(6, 61/2) inches from the cast on edge.
Decrease Rounds:
Round 1: (k6, k2tog), repeat to the end of the round. 42(49, 56) stitches remain.
Round 2 and following even rounds through round 12: Knit.
Round 3: (k5, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round. 36(42, 48) stitches remain.
Round 5: (k4, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round. 30(35, 40) stitches remain.
Round 7: (k3, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round. 24(28, 32) stitches remain.
Round 9: (k2, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round. 18(21, 24) stitches remain.
Round 11: (k1, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round. 12(14, 16) stitches remain.
Round 13: (k2tog) repeat to the end of the round. 6(7, 8) stitches remain.
Cut yarn, thread through live stitches and secure.
Flower:
With crochet hook and bone, chain 6 and join in a ring with slip stitch (sl st).
Round 1: 14 single crochet (sc) in ring. Sl st to first sc at beginning of round to close.
Round 2: (into front strand of each sc work 1 sc, chain 6, 1 sc) 14 times, sl st to first sc to close.
Round 3: (into back strand of each sc in Round 1 work 1 sc, chain 8, 1sc) 14 times, slip stitch to first sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Use the tail to secure the flower to the hat band with a whip stitch around the center of the flower.
