Micira-cowl

For years I have had two Noro Silk Garden skeins laying around waiting to be used. They've been nagging me every time I've seen them in my stash but I've told them to shush and wait for their turn. Finally they are happily purled and knitted, accompanied by a skein of Rowan Felted Tweed DK.

The idea for this cowl came from Broken seed stitch socks by Handepande in Ravelry.

My cowl measures 35 x 37 cm after a light steam blocking.

If you want to make one, here's what you need:

Ingredients:

2 skeins of Noro Silk Garden
1 skein of Rowan Felted Tweed DK
4.5 mm circular needles, 60 cm long

Recipe:

Gauge is 16 x 17 st / 10 cm.

Cast on 131 st with Rowan Felted Tweed DK.

Start knitting seed stitch - *k1,p1* - and when you reach the last stitch, purl it together with the next stitch. Now you've joined your knitting in a round. Place a marker. Make sure you haven't twisted the knitting.

Now knit another round of seed stitch - *p1,k1* (the joined stitches are the first purl stitch) - until you reach the marker.

Now you get to break the seeds. Join Noro Silk Garden and start knitting the broken seed stitch pattern as follows:

Row 1: k1, p1   - Noro
Row 2: knit       - Rowan
Row 3: p1, k1   - Noro
Row 4: knit       - Rowan

Knit until your work measures approximately 36 cm from the cast on edge. Knit two rows of seed stitch  pattern with Rowan Felted Tweed DK and bind off. I did a basic BO but you can do whatever BO you like the best.

I've arranged the Noro stripes per my liking leaving a almost black part of the Noro unused. With Noro Silk Garden it's easy to do as it spit splices very easily. I re-skeined both Noro skeins to see how the colours are in them.

Happy knitting.
