Yet another Monster High Dress ;)

And again we are going with the “Gothic Lolita”-inspired theme. I really have to find some new inspirations πŸ˜‰

short-sleeved dress with underskirt

If you have knitted e.g. the short sleeved basic dress or the lacy summer dress, you will see that most of my patters are only variations of some basic πŸ˜‰

This dress has a separate underskirt (because I wanted to start the dress from the top ^^”).

On to the pattern! For this dress, I used a non-brand black sock yarn (210m/50g) and a white perl yarn for the collar, skirt hem, and underskirt.

Of course, you can use any colours and/or only one colour. In that case just ignore prompts for using “second colour”.

Knitted with 2 mm DPN

DRESS:

We will start at the collar.

CO 24 st with your second colour, divide onto four double pointed needles (6 per needle for the mathematically challenged among us πŸ˜‰ ) and join for knitting in the round

  • round 1: knit
  • round 2: purl
  • round 3: knit
  • round 4: purl (alternatively, could also knit the collar in ribbing k1p1)
  • round 5: change to main colour; knit
  • round 6: *k2, YO, k2, YO, k2* (<-repeat per needle)
  • round 7: k around; knit the YO from the front (32 st)
  • round 8: *k3, YO, k2, YO, k3*
  • round 9: k around; k; knit the YO from the front (40 st)
  • round 10: *k4, YO, k2, YO, k4*
  • round 11: k around, k; knit the YO from the front (48 st)
  • round 12: k around
  • round 13: k6; BO 11; k12; BO 11; k6
(=26 st: 6st leftt back half – 11 st. bound off for sleeve – 7 standing from 1 from bind off and 6 knitted left front half, same for right front half, 11 st. bound off for sleeve – 6 st. right back half)
  • round 14: k around to join round again, BUT: k last st before BO and first st after BO together (24 st in round)
  • knit to desired lengths of upper part of the dress (I like to take about 4 cm to 5 cm)
  • for the SKIRT partΒ :
  • kfb all stitches (=48 st), knit one round
  • kfb of every second st. (=72 st)
  • knit for as long as you would like the main colour part of the skirt to be. If you want, you can incorporate any lace pattern, or just knit plain. Easiest for some little “holes” is *yarn over, k2tog* around, knit one round, etc.
  • for the skirt hem, change to contrasting colour
  • purl one round, knit one round, purl one round, knit one round (or more, or less, depending on how much contrasting hem you would like)
  • Bottom hem: any bind off you would like to use; I used the following method:
k1, *kfb, turn, k3, turn, cast off 3*, repeat ** to the last 2 st, cast off.
If you use “standard” bind off, I suggest to bind off in purl st.

UNDERSKIRT:

  • Cast on 24 st. in the colour of your underskirt (white here), divide onto four double pointed needles (6 per needle for the mathematically challenged among us πŸ˜‰ ) and join for knitting in the round
  • rounds 1-3: k1p1 ribbing
  • round 4: knit
  • round 5: knit, and double (kfb) each st (=48 st)
  • round 6: knit
  • round 7: double (kfb) each second st (= 72 st)
  • Knit to desired lengths and finish just like the skirt part (I knitted the underskirt to be a bit longer than the dress. You can assess it best if you put both the finished dress and the underskirt still in work on the doll to see how long you would like it to be).
